The dominance of global digital platforms is reshaping how music is distributed, monetized, and consumed—often leaving independent artists struggling for sustainable revenues. This interactive event will explore how the European music ecosystem can adapt to the platform economy by embracing new technologies, developing innovative business models, and fostering fairer value distribution.
The workshop builds on insights from the research paper The European Music Ecosystem, presented on January 17, 2025, at the Eurosonic Festival, where platformization has been identified as a critical challenge for the music sector. During the last two decades, driven by digitisation and globalisation, the structure of the sector has been transformed from siloed into a predominantly networked one, where value is no longer created in linear value chains, but in increasingly complex, decentralised and open value networks.

Now, ekip is taking the discussion further — bringing together industry experts to tackle the pressing challenges of the platform economy, to analyze the impact and craft actionable solutions. This event builds on six months of research and social listening, offering you the opportunity to actively contribute to shaping actionable solutions for a sustainable and competitive European music industry. Recommendations designed as a result of the workshop will inform the European Commission and other stakeholders in supporting a resilient and competitive music ecosystem.
