María Rut has dedicated herself to the arts and culture scene in Iceland since 2008. From 2012 to 2017 she managed international musician Ásgeir and led the Icelandic Music Awards for four years. Joining the City of Reykjavík in 2017, she shaped Reykjavík Music City until 2022 and headed the cultural office from 2021 to 2023. María's impact extends beyond management roles; she served on the board of the Harpa Concert and Conference Centre, represented Iceland as a Nordic Culture Fund ambassador, and co-authored a pivotal report on COVID-19's impact on the music industry. Subsequently, she was appointed by the Minister of Education and Culture to a working group to prepare the establishment of a new extended national music office in Iceland. María holds a BA degree in political science and studied leadership at the KaosPilot school in Denmark.
