GAMIQ-nominated Montreal artist Corey Gulkin revels in the idiosyncratic and makes it feel like home. Hailing from the world of folk music, Gulkin came to prominence early in their career as winners of the 2013 John Lennon Songwriting Grand Prize. In recent years, Gulkin have alchemised their musical pedigree through experimentation. With Gulkin's tenacity and vulnerability at the forefront, their new album Half Moon (2023, Anything Bagel) revels in new territory, leaping into the world of art rock. Confrontational, restless and spirited, Gulkin ride the terror and thrill of refusing to back down, carried by the unique vibrato of her voice. From furious guitar solos to tender improvisations and cathartic moments, Gulkin's live set is tenacious and adventurous. Over the years they have been featured on CBC, Exclaim! and NPR and have performed alongside Leith Ross, Marissa Nadler, Blitzen Trapper and The Weather Station.
