Born to Estonian refugee parents who fled the Soviet occupation, Andres Lokko is a cultural critic, broadcaster, and occasional curator of some renown in Sweden and across Scandinavia.
The Independent newspaper once described Andres as "Sweden's John Peel". He ran the influential Pop Magazine in the 1990s and interviewed artists including David Bowie, Prince, and Scott Walker. A selection of those interviews—along with essays and criticism—has been collected in a series of books (a fourth 600-page volume was published in September 2025).
He has directed documentaries on Japanese outsider music, presented and produced MTV Sweden’s This Is Our Music series, and written a few legendary comedy series.
These days he is usually busy as the chief music critic for Svenska Dagbladet.
