Ruth Daniel is a multi-award-winning CEO and Artistic Director of In Place of War, an international NGO working with music, art and creativity in regions affected by armed conflict, social injustice and climate change. She previously co-founded the ground-breaking alternative music industry event Un-Convention, founded an independent record label, and performed with several bands, most notably the cult Manchester band The Fall.
As a consultant for international festivals including Primavera Pro (Barcelona), Shoko Festival (Zimbabwe) and DoaDoa (Uganda), she has produced acclaimed music collaborations worldwide. Her major international projects range from partnerships between Soweto jazz musicians and UK electronic pioneers Coldcut to innovative collaborations featuring Colombian rainforest frogs with Brian Eno, and Indigenous artists with Bicep in the Arctic.
With over twenty years of experience in communities, music, arts, academia and the NGO sector, Ruth creates meaningful and impactful artistic projects of the highest quality. A proud member of the Nordic Music Leaders Network, she specialises in bringing together diverse voices—from world-leading academics and musicians to community leaders and indigenous groups—to create and disrupt traditional approaches.
