Matt Black is one half of the DJ duo and multimedia pop group Coldcut, co-founders of Ninja Tune. In 2025, Ninja Tune celebrated 35 years as one of the world's leading electronic music labels and a beacon for the independent music spirit. Coldcut's most recent album, Keleketla (2020), received universal acclaim.

Known for innovations in DJing, remixing, mashup, VJing, software and digital art, Coldcut combine cutting-edge artistic expression with activist themes across works including Journeys by DJ, People Hold On, Timber, Panopticon and Re:volution. They have collaborated with a wide range of artists and activists including James Brown, Mark E Smith, Queen Latifah, Jello Biafra, Lisa Stansfield, Steve Reich, Lee Scratch Perry, Tony Allen and the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, among many others.

Matt's recent inventions include sample instrument Jamm and Pixi, a visual synth. His stated ambition is to "create positive art, music and spiritual technology that blow the minds of the entire planet and advance cooperation."
